The filing window will be open from July1 till July 15 at 5 p.m. for anyone interested in running for city council in cities throughout Summit County. Coalville, Oakley, Kamas and Park City each have three seats open while Henefer and Francis each have two open seats.
Interested candidates can apply at their local city hall and must be 18 or above, a registered voter, U.S. citizen and have lived in the town for the previous 12 months.
This year there will be no write-in’s allowed unless a resident declares themselves a write-in candidate prior to the election.
A primary election will be held September 13 if deemed necessary. Each city will decide individually if they are going to hold early voting.

Moratorium placed on Core Rezone

The Summit County Council voted to place a six-month long moratorium on Core Rezone projects while the Summit County Council works to clarify the language of the code and make sure there is a set, repeatable process to apply to all applicants according to Summit County Planner Kimber Gabryszak. The moratorium will not affect the two Core projects that are currently in the process of approval, including the Discovery Core project proposed near Gorgoza.
Community to choose name for new police dog
The Summit County Sheriff’s department announced the newest member of their unit on Thursday, a 15-month old German Shepard puppy. The dog’s handler, Deputy Berger, and Sheriff Edmunds are asking for the community’s input in naming the new K9 force member. For the next 10 days residents are asked to go to: http://www.summitcountysheriff.org/k9.php and suggest a name.
The Kamas Valley Lions are looking for July 4 and Fiesta Days volunteers
July is fast approaching with super fun opportunities to help make Cotton Candy, Popcorn, and Sno-Cones during the Oakley 4 of July celebration and Kamas Fiesta Days. The Lions have openings available for Oakley on July 2 and July 4, 2011 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. There are also spots available for Kamas Fiesta Days July 20 to23, 2011.

Kamas to celebrate 100 years
Kamas will hold its centennial celebration on Tuesday, July 5 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Kamas City Hall. The celebration will feature historical wagon rides, food, music and an open house.
Mirror Lake Highway, State Road 150, is now open from Kamas to Evanston, however, many campgrounds along the highway remain closed including Lost Lake, Lily Lake, Trail Lake, Washington Lake, Mirror Lake, Moosehorn, and Butterfly Lake Campgrounds.
