Cops investigate fatal shooting in Uintas

Patrick Parkinson, Of the Record staff

Riverton resident William Short died Saturday evening after he was shot in the stomach while hunting with another man in the Wasatch-Cache National Forest east of Marion. Short was 44 years old.

First aid was administered at the scene of the shooting that occurred Oct. 20 at roughly 5:50 p.m., Summit County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Justin Martinez said.

No arrests have been made, Martinez said.

Deputies seized two hunting rifles and are waiting for ballistics tests to help determine how Short was shot, he added.

"Any time, charges could be pending," Martinez said.
