County begins contract negotiations with manager finalist
The Summit County Council believes it has completed its search for the county’s first chief executive officer.
After closed-door discussions last week with two finalists for the influential post, councilpersons decided unanimously to begin contract negotiations with a man who lives outside of Utah, Interim Summit County Manager Brian Bellamy said in a telephone interview Monday.
If he accepts an offer the name of the county manager could be released to the public next week, Bellamy said.
The finalist has already worked as a county executive in the West, said Bellamy, who refused to disclose which state the man is from.
"We need to start looking at pay and what benefits we’ll be offering," Bellamy said.
There was a nationwide search for someone to oversee the executive branch of government in Summit County and manage its day-to-day operations. The position may have an annual salary which tops $130,000.
Summit County Councilman Chris Robinson said the hiring of the first Summit County manager has taken longer than he expected.
