Great American Smokeout

The Summit County Health Department is urging friends and family to support smokers in setting aside tobacco for day on Nov. 15 for the annual Great American Smokeout.

"If you have a friend or family member who is trying to quit, begin by offering your support," said Olivia Gunnerson, Summit County Health Department Health Educator.

According to a statement by the Summit County Health Department, family members of smokers can offer support by being positive and talking about the benefits of quitting, rather than just the risks of smoking, and provide kits and information about helpful medications to their loved ones.

Kits can include pamphlets, sugar-free gum, low-calorie snacks like carrots and fruit, and distractions such as games, puzzles, cards, notes, drawings, photos and movie tickets.

The Summit County Health Department will be giving free quit kits and information on tobacco cessation services at the Summit County Health Department Kamas and Coalville offices from 1 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15. The kits will also be available at the Park City office through November.
