County Sheriff’s Report

A 51-year-old man charged with felony aggravated assault and misdemeanors for reckless driving, having an open container of alcohol inside a car and providing false identity to a police officer appeared Aug. 1 in Third District Court in Snyderville.

Prosecutors allege that on June 24 Ricardo Hernandez attempted to run a woman over near South Beach at Echo Reservoir. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for the man on Aug. 22.

A witness told Summit County Sheriff’s Office deputy Nick Wilkinson she watched as Hernandez attempted "to run down a female pedestrian," court papers filed by Prosecutor Mary-Kathleen Wolsey state.

"[The witness] noticed that the car actually came in contact with [the victim] but [she] pushed herself off to the side as it came by," court documents state.

Hernandez then attempted to run over the woman and her daughter near a campfire, Wolsey claims.

According to prosecutors, Hernandez and the victim then returned to the man’s trailer.

"Shortly thereafter, [the witness] heard someone screaming to call 911," court papers states.

According to prosecutors, Hernandez and the victim, who have a child together, had been drinking for several hours.

"[The victim] said the defendant followed her into the trailer and held her down on the bed, grabbing her around the throat," court papers state.

According to Wolsey, Wilkinson claimed marks on the victim’s neck were consistent with her allegations.
