Documented gang members arrested at Basin apartments

by Patrick Parkinson, of The Record staff

Law enforcement nabbed several documented gang members in a raid in the Snyderville Basin on Wednesday.

Four of the suspects belong to the notorious Sureños street gang. Two of the other suspects are "documented gang affiliates" and some of those arrested have connections to Brown Side 13, a gang in the Park City area, the authorities said.

The nine people were taken into custody Wednesday evening at Canyon Creek Club, 900 Bitner Road.

"Deputies discovered several documented Sureños gang members and their affiliates engaging in alleged drug, alcohol and other offenses," according to Sgt. Nick Wilkinson, a spokesman for the Summit County Sheriff’s Office.

Some of the people arrested may have been involved in a theft that occurred Wednesday at a business in Park City, according to Wilkinson.

Seven of the suspects arrested in the raid were booked into the Summit County jail. One juvenile was booked into a detention center and one juvenile was released "on referral," according to Wilkinson.

Two of the suspects have been placed on "immigration hold" by the Department of Homeland Security while their immigration statuses are verified, according to Wilkinson.

The operation involved the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, Park City Police Department, Utah Highway Patrol and the Metro Gang Unit.
