Drug bust on I-80

A search of a vehicle pulled over on I-80 for a tail light violation Thursday morning revealed over 16 pounds of a substance believed to be marijuana.

The driver, Steven M. Barnett, 47, of California, was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and a tail light violation, according to reports.

The passenger, Reginald S. Wilcoxen, 45, of New York, was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute.

Park City Police Department officers and Summit County Sheriff’s Office deputies were working with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Metropolitan Task Force on I-80 when they stopped the vehicle.

The Summit County Sheriff’s Office canine, "Recon," conducted an exterior sniff of the vehicle and he indicated on the trunk. A search revealed 14 bags of the illegal drug hidden in the vehicle’s spare tire wheel.

The DEA Metropolitan Task Force intercepts drug traffickers and terrorist activities on the local, state and federal levels.
