Mad Science at McPolin

Mad Science, an after-school, hands-on science program, is coming back to McPolin Elementary School for grades first through fifth. The classes for System 2 include: "Watts-Up," "Optical Illusions," "Lights Color Action," and "Polymers: Slippery Slime." Each class offers professional instruction, take-home projects, impressive demonstrations and hands-on activities. Registration deadline is Dec. 18. Turn in registration form and $38 fee to school office. Classes are held on Monday’s from 3:10 to 4:10 starting January 7 for four weeks. For more information, call (801) 292-8646.

Winter Workshops

Kimball Art Center invites students of all ages to stop by the Kimball for the following days of winter workshop fun: Dec. 18, holiday cookie plates; Dec. 19, paper card and ornament making; Dec. 20, gingerbread houses, sculptures and snowmaking; Dec. 26, mad hatter party hats; Dec. 27, New Year’s noise makers. Workshops run from 2 to 5 p.m. and are $20 per craft. All proceeds support Kimball Art Center’s education programs. Call (435) 649-8882 to reserve your spot today.

Volunteers needed for recess program

Trailside Elementary School is looking for volunteers for its December and January recess program. The PTA is buying some winter equipment so the kids have things to run around and play with to keep warm. Two volunteers are needed Tuesdays and Thursdays, or the school will have to drop the program. Contact Molly Vetter at (435) 640-0498 or go to the PTA office to sign up.

On the first and third Saturday each month, come join a naturalist at the Rock Cliff recreation site in Jordanelle State Park, 10 a.m. to noon, from Dec. 15 to March 15 to learn about animal tracking and animal myths.
