Cell alert

The Park City School District will institute their cellular communication system to alert parents and students of school closures and other events. Standard text messaging rates will apply. To activate the service, simply text PCSD to 41513. The service may also be deactivated by texting STOP to the same number. Back to school

Park City School District will return to school on Aug. 25. North Summit School District starts instruction on Aug. 22. South Summit School District kicks off on Aug. 19.

Student achievement

Emily Klein, Park City High School graduate and current University of New Hampshire research center fellow, received the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration scholarship. The funding will allow her to complete her doctoral work.

Author talk

Jacqueline Berger, Park City resident and author of "Loves, Lies and Tears: An Intimate Look at America’s First Ladies," will talk about her book at the Park City Library at 6 p.m. on August 14. For more information, call 615-5600.

Free lunches

The State of Utah announced the new free and reduced-price school program for underprivileged children. Those children who receive food stamps and similar government monies automatically qualify while others will have to file an application with local schools.
