Last lecture Co-author to visit Park City High School

Jeffrey Zaslow, who co-wrote The Last Lecture with Randy Pausch, will be at Park City High School Sept. 2-3 as this year’s Scholar-in-Residence. The Last Lecture chronicles a Carnegie Mellon computer science professor who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. All high school students were required to read and complete assignments over the summer based on the book.

SLCC to host writing workshop

Salt Lake Community College is hosting a two-part workshop Sept. 2 and 9, from 6- 8 p.m. at the Community Writing Center. The workshop is designed to help community members write change-inspiring letters to public officials and micro-fiction writing, presenting a large idea in a small amount of space. Park City resident receives degree

Park City resident Nicole Roth graduated from Trinity University with a Bachelor of Science. Commencement exercises were held May 15 on the San Antonio campus.

UVU to offer two new scholarships

The new endowed scholarship for master’s degrees at Utah Valley University was finalized last week. The Gardner H. Russell Leadership Endowed Scholarship Fund, for students who are pursuing an MBA, was initiated on Aug. 12 with a private donation of $30,000. The Russell Scholarship Fund will likely begin awarding scholarships in fall 2012.

The Workforce Training Scholarship is for community residents interested in expanding their skills and acquiring additional training. Scholarships will be awarded based on the cost of individual programs, up to $500. Those interested in applying for the scholarship should submit a one-page letter explaining financial need and detailing how the training will improve their work life to UVU’s Community and Continuing Education Department by Aug. 31. Proof of legal U.S. residency should also be included with the application letter.
