Panel to discuss education needs of the 21st century

Park City School District and the Park City Education Foundation plan to hold a public panel to discuss the skills Park City students will need in the 21st Century and the future of education Thursday. The event will begin at 7 p.m., in the Park City High School Lecture Hall. Board President Maurice Hickey will moderate the panel of educators and community members as they explore the challenges and opportunities district administrators face in preparing Park City students for a complex and changing future.

Panelists include Howard Phillips, Jim Banister, Nancy Michalko, Tom Van Gorder, Hilary Hays, and Janice Jones. As part of Education Awareness Month, the panel is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Hickey at 435-729-0233 or

Park City alumni receive academic recognition

Pearce Decker was named to the fall 2010 semester Dean’s List at Colgate University in central New York. Decker is studying neuroscience and computer science. Richard Bregger received recognition on the Dean’s List of Northwood University in central Michigan for the fall 2010 semester by earning a 3.25 grade-point average to be named to the list. Caitlin Dullanty received the Gold Cord Honor at the Santa Catalina School in Monterey, California by earning a 3.8 grade-point average or higher during the fall 2010 semester.

Huntsman Institute accepting education award nominations

Parents, students and other Utah residents can nominate public school teachers, volunteers and school administrators to receive the Huntsman Awards for Excellence in Education. Ten recipients will each receive a $10,000 cash award.
