Park City adult students graduate with GEDs
Eleven Latino adults recently graduated with their General Education Development certificates after completing a course put on by the Summit County Library and the Park City School District. According to a press release, the graduates are: Aby Chacon, Gustavo Cansino, Maritza Cruz, Maria Garcia, Marco Tafur, Flor Loya, Arturo Perez, Diana Romo, Teresa Vasquez, Manuel Garcia and Victor Samano. Spanish is the primary language for the students, but most of them also speak English. Before the course, many of them had no formal education beyond junior high, and some are now considering secondary education.

Habitat for Humanity financial literacy course
Habitat for Humanity of Summit and Wasatch Counties wrapped up its spring financial literacy workshop series. According to a press release, the aim of the program is to help middle- and low-income families achieve financial stability. The series was made possible through a $1,000 grant from the Rocky Mountain Power Foundation. "Rocky Mountain Power Foundation has been a long-time supporter of Habitat, including helping us build new energy-efficient homes," said Habitat's Executive Director, Shellie Barrus. "We are grateful for their continued investment."

U. hosts debate camps for high school students
The University of Utah is hosting debate camps for high school students across the country through much of this month. According to a press release, the school's John R. Park Debate Society will help attendees become better debaters and critical thinkers. A full-day tournament will be held July 22. "Students really have the opportunity to tailor the camp to their own interests and individual needs," said Michael Middleton, director of the debate society. "They can take classes in political philosophy, argumentation theory, economics, foreign affairs, domestic policy, rhetoric and persuasion, advanced speaking skills, critical theory, performance theory, and more."
