Ex-mayor charged with DUI

A pretrial hearing is scheduled Oct. 14 for a former Henefer mayor charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and a lane violation, both are misdemeanors.

James A. Rees, 48, was arrested Aug. 3 and booked into the Summit County jail, charging documents state. Rees posted $1,300 bail and was released.

"I have nothing to say about it," Rees said when reached this week. "I guess I’ll just go ahead and wait and see what happens [in court.]"

His appearance in Summit County Justice Court is slated at 1 p.m.

The alleged lane violation was likely the reason Rees was stopped, said Joy Natale, the deputy Summit County attorney prosecuting the case.

The freeway stop occurred near the intersection of Interstates 80 and 84 near Echo, Natale explained.

The level of alcohol in Rees’ blood was .10 at the time of his arrest, Natale said.

The legal limit for alcohol while driving in Utah is .08 grams.

Rees was the mayor of Henefer from 2002 to 2005. Henefer is situated at the northwestern edge of Summit County and boasts a population of nearly 700 people.
