Youth baseball

The newly organized Park City 9 Baseball Club will be holding open tryouts for its youth competitive baseball teams. Tryout days and times are as follows: Ten and under and 11 and under will meet Friday, Jan. 19 from 4-5:30 p.m., 12 and under, 13 and under, and 14 and under will meet Friday, Jan. 19 from 5:30-7 p.m., and 8 and under and 9 and under will meet Saturday, Jan. 20 from 9-11 a.m. All age requirements are based on the player’s age as of April 30, 2007. Picabo’s Ski Challenge

During the opening weekend of the Sundance Film Festival, Olympic gold medallist Picabo Street will host the third annual Picabo’s Ski Challenge to benefit victims of child abuse. The two-day event will feature a VIP reception dinner party at Hotel Park City on Jan. 20 from 7-8 p.m. as well as an amateur ski cace and après ski party at Park City Mountain Resort on Jan. 21 from 10:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. All proceeds from Picabo’s Ski Challenge will benefit the National Children’s Alliance and over 600 Children’s Advocacy Centers nationwide. Children’s Advocacy Centers are specialized community programs designed to provide a child-friendly environment for children who have disclosed sexual abuse and are the primary witness in the investigation of their case. Among some of the confirmed guests for one or both of the events are Tara Reid, Billy Bush and Chad Hedrick, an Olympic gold medallist in speedskating.

Fun shot basketball

The South Summit Aquatic and Fitness Center (SSAFC) is offering a Fun Shot Basketball competition on Saturday, Jan. 27, at 10:30 a.m. This skill competition is designed for youth ages 8-13 with separate divisions for boys and girls. Each player will have one minute to score as many points as possible from six different spots on the basketball court. Following the competition, the parents of the participants may participate in a Fun Shot competition with women’s and men’s divisions. The winner of the children’s contest will be eligible to move on to the area competition. Participation is free. Register at the SSAFC Front Desk during regular business hours.
