New race series

A new races series is in town. The Park City Mountain Bike Race Series begins on Wednesday, July 9, at 5 p.m. Park City Mountain Resort, with five more Wednesday competitions to follow. The course climbs up First Time and Home Run, across Crescent Mine grade, then makes a descent on Eagle, Spiro and Silver Spur runs. Beginner and sport-level riders complete the course once, while experts and pros ride it twice. Dinner and prizes follow each race. The cost is $15 per race and the first after-race dinner will be held at Nacho Mama’s. For more information, visit http://www.mountainraceworks.com.

Deer permits gone

Permits to hunt buck deer in the Northern Region sold out on June 29. That means all of the public permits to hunt bucks in Utah this fall have been taken. General archery elk permits, which are unlimited in number, may still be purchased. The state’s general archery elk season starts Aug. 16. In addition to the archery permits, more than 8,700 permits to hunt on spike bull-elk units are still available. Elk permits are available at the Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR) Web site, wildlife.utah.gov, and at any DWR office.

Curling open house

The Park City Ice Arena will hold a curling open house on July 17 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. for anyone interested in learning more about the sport. For more information, visit http://www.pcice.org.
