The Blue Boar Inn and Restaurant will host the sixth annual Schützenfest "Shoot for the Finish Line" 5K Run/Walk on Sept. 20 at 9 a.m. at Wasatch Mountain State Park in Midway to benefit Soldier Hollow youth sports programs. The race will start at the Wasatch Mountain State Park Visitor’s Center, across from The Blue Boar Inn at 1235 Warm Springs Road, and travel around Wasatch Mountain State Park on roads and trails. The 5K run is part of The Blue Boar Inn’s seventh annual Schützenfest, a traditional European-style shooting party and feast and is open to runners of all ages and abilities. Runners can register for the 5K run online at http://www.active.com or on the day of the race at the visitor’s center starting at 7:30 a.m. Registration prior to the event is $20 or $25 on Sept. 20. Runners will receive a T-shirt and will be eligible for a multi-prize drawing including overnight stays, dinners at the Blue Boar restaurant and stuffed animal boars. Strawberry Wildlife Festival
Celebrate wildlife in the Strawberry Valley. The Strawberry Wildlife Festival will provide opportunities to see fluorescent red kokanee salmon on their annual spawning run up the Strawberry Reservoir as well as other wildlife. The festival will be held Sept. 19 and 20 at the U.S. Forest Service visitor center at Strawberry Reservoir. The visitor center is along U.S.-40, about 20 miles southeast of Heber. The Friends of Strawberry Valley host the festival every September amid the changing colors of the Strawberry Valley. Festival activities will run from noon to 6 p.m. on Sept. 19, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sept. 20. Some of the activities will include fishing on a fishing simulator, looking at animal tracks, exotic animals viewing(Sept. 20 only, from 1 – 3 p.m.), live birds, watching the Utah Highway Patrol demonstrate ZONAR, and boating and ATV safety demonstrations. Smokey Bear will also be on hand. On Sept. 20, a presentation on "Outdoor Survival." Will be given at 11 a.m., followed by one on "Fishing Success and Technology" at 3:30 p.m. Both of the presentations will be held in the visitor center.
