Itty Bitty Basketball

The South Summit Aquatic and Fitness Center (SSAFC) is offering a co-ed recreational and instructional basketball program for boys and girls in first and second grade. Games will begin Feb. 10 and continue through the end of March. This will include a 30-minute instructional period followed by a game. All games will be held at the SSAFC Gym on Tuesdays at 5 p.m. The cost is $22 per player. Registration will be taken at the SSAFC front desk from Jan. 12 to Jan. 31. Ute mania

The University of Utah football team will be honored with a parade in downtown Salt Lake City on Friday, Jan. 16. The parade will begin at 3 p.m. and will end in Washington Square. The Utah football team, band, cheerleaders, Swoop and the Muss will from march from the Eagle Gate entrance at the corner of South Temple and State Street to the City County Building at Washington Square (400 South). They will march behind a caravan of cars carrying coaches, administrators and dignitaries. Fans are encouraged to line both sides of State Street for the procession, which will culminate in a rally on the west steps of the City County Building. The marchers will toss red Sugar Bowl beads to the crowd lining the parade route and 10,000 commemorative buttons will also be distributed. Players, coach Kyle Whittingham and others will speak at a rally in Washington Square. On Saturday, Jan. 17, the team will be honored again at halftime of the men’s basketball game against Colorado State. The football team will meet fans prior to the game, which starts at 4 p.m. More details will be posted on UtahUtes.com. In addition, on Jan.17, Fox-13 will rebroadcast Utah’s stunning 31-17 Sugar Bowl win over No. 4 Alabama from 7 to10 p.m.

Ski jumping

The Park City Nordic Ski Club/National Sports Foundation will hold its first competition of the season, the Utah Winter Games/Visa #1, on Saturday, Jan. 10, at the Utah Olympic Park (UOP). On Saturday at 10 a.m. there will be jumps off the K90 and K64. A Nordic Combined event for all age divisions will begin at 2 p.m. at UOP.
