ESPN and Winter X Games 13 will be hosting a special screening of "Shaun White: Don’t Look Down" at the X- Dance Film Festival in Salt Lake on Sunday, Jan. 19."Don’t Look Down," directed by Willie Ebersol, premiered on ESPN 2 on Jan. 18. The documentary takes fans on a journey around the globe with White from the superpipe of Alts Bandai, Japan, to the black tops of Rwanda. The screening will be held at the Off Broadway Theatre at 272 S. Main St. in Salt Lake. Doors open at 9:15 p.m. Tickets are available now at http://www.theobt.com . There will be a director question-and-answer period and party immediately following the screening at the Broadway Bistro at 300 S. Main.
Madden Bowl 2009
The South Summit Aquatic and Fitness Center (SSAFC) will hold Madden Bowl 2009 on Saturday, Jan. 31, at 9 a.m. Participants will compete in the Madden football video game in a tournament-style competition. All participants are guaranteed three games. Teams will be drawn randomly out of a hat and an X-Box 360 game console will be provided. The bowl starts at 9 a.m. Any person age 7 and up may participate. The cost is $5. To register, visit the SSAFC front desk during regular business hours. Registration will be held Jan. 12-24. Space is limited.
PC9 baseball tryouts
The PC9 Competitive Baseball organization will hold open tryouts for all age groups Jan. 24 through Feb. 28 at Basin Recreation Field House. Open tryouts will be held every Saturday morning from 9 a.m. to noon and Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. Tryouts are open to all ballplayers ages 7-14 in Summit and Wasatch counties. Final rosters will be set by the end of February. PC9 will be looking to field teams in the following age groups: ages 8 and under, 9 and under, 10 and under, 11 and under, 12 and under, 13 and under and 14 and under. The age cutoff date for each group is April 30. Open tryout times will be held for 8U, 9U, 10U, 11U on Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. to noon and Wednesdays from 5 to 6 p.m. Tryouts for ages 12U, 13U and 14U will be held Saturdays from 9 to 10:30 a.m. and Wednesday from 6 to 7 p.m. Please bring a mitt to the tryouts. A group of people that appeared to largely represent Park City’s development and real estate industries joined family members of the late United Park City Mines President Hank Rothwell on Wednesday as a road was named in his honor. It was a tribute to a key figure in the great growth battles of the 1990s.
