It already has golf courses designed and named after course-designing guru Pete Dye and the game’s greatest legend, in Jack Nicklaus, but Promontory plans to continue growing by opening courses designed by Tom Weiskopf and Forrest Richardson, the Forrest Richardson Short Course, scheduled for play in 2008, followed by a full-length championship course cultivated by Weiskopf.
Youth soccer shooting competition at Trailside
The annual Elks Soccer Shoot will be held at Trailside Park Aug. 20. The Elks Soccer Shoot is a friendly soccer shooting competition for boys and girls under 14 years of age. Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers in each division, plus the top finisher in each is eligible to advance and compete at the district, and maybe even state, level. There is no fee for the competition, and registration is taken at the event. A valid birth certificate or passport is required for verification of age as of Aug. 1, 2006. Jason Kreis and Chris Klein of Real Salt Lake will be at the event. Boys and girls under-8 and under-12 will be from 1 to 2:30 p.m., the under-10 and under-14 divisions will be held from 3 to 4:30 p.m. For more information, call 649-8310.
The Canyons plans disc golf course
The Canyons announced the grand opening of a 9-hole disc golf course. The 9-hole alpine course is located mid-mountain, near Red Pine Lodge. The course meanders through High Meadow, Saddleback and the Sweet Pea areas. Public access to the course is free with the purchase of a $12 gondola pass or season pass.
Canyon Mountain Sports in the Forum area will have a course map, scorecard and a full line of disc golf equipment and accessories for purchase and rental. The map/scorecard will also be available online at http://www.thecanyons.com/disc_golf.
