Marthinius (Mark or M.A.) Strand, regarded as "the father of organized skiing" in the Intermountain West for establishing the first ski club hereabouts in 1915 and for decades-long efforts promoting ski jumping and skiing events locally and nationally during the 1920 and 1930s, will be inducted into the Intermountain Ski Hall of Fame Sept. 21. The Hall of Fame, established in 2002, is under the auspices of the University of Utah Marriott Library Ski Archives and the Joe Quinney Winter Sports Center/Alf Engen Ski Museum Foundation at the Utah Olympic Park. Those organizations are hoping to locate a family member of Strand’s who would accept the Hall of Fame award on behalf of the honoree who died in 1965. Anyone with information about such an individual should contact Connie Nelson, executive director, Alf Engen Ski Museum Foundation, by calling 658-4240 or at connie.nelson//miners.dartfishnet.com .
