Fire destroys Summit Park home

Officials are investigating the cause of a fire that destroyed a home Monday night in Summit Park.

Firefighters responded to 175 Parkview Drive at about 10:13 p.m., said Bob Zanetti, an assistant Park City Fire District chief.

"It was visible from the freeway," Zanetti said in a telephone interview Tuesday.

Passersby placed an "extraordinary number" of calls to 911 dispatchers, he said.

"The house was fully engulfed," Zanetti said. "Three sides were visible and flames were coming out of all three sides."

Firefighters had the blaze contained within about an hour.

"It’s a total loss," Zanetti said about the home, estimating the cost of the damage at about $500,000. "Part of the roof collapsed."

Nobody was home when the house caught fire. But three cats were missing on Tuesday.

About 18 firefighters battled the blaze, Zanetti said.

"No other property is damaged," he said. "We had a really good response time."

But neighbors in Summit Park were terrified.

"It was insane. It was like a huge fireball," Summit Park resident Pam Smell said. "It looked like a torch. It was very, very scary."

Smell lives nearby on Crestview Drive.

"Ashes were flying and I was afraid it was going to catch some of my trees on fire," she said. "They had a ton of vehicles and everything was blocked off."
