Forest Service battles new wildfire near Smith Morehouse
Fire crews with the U.S. Forest Service are fighting an active wildfire in Summit County near Smith Morehouse, according to an update on the Summit County website.
The notification states that the blaze, which started sometime last night, had burned approximately 20 to 30 acres as of 11 p.m. on Thursday. The fire is heading in a southeast direction toward Erickson Basin and is being actively managed by the U.S. Forest Service.
Hikers in the area were evacuated as a precaution, according to the Heber-Kamas Ranger District. However, no further details were available.
