Governor tries to defuse standoff between PCMR and Talisker

Gov. Gary R. Herbert has reached out to both parties in the tense legal standoff between Park City Mountain Resort and Talisker Corporation centered on PCMR’s lease payments to operate on Talisker-owned land.

Herbert declined to say who initiated the discussions but said he has spoken to John Cumming CEO of PCMR parent company Powdr Corp. which owns PCMR and Talisker Chairman and CEO Jack Bistricer.

"I have talked to both of them separately and I hope that they can find common ground and resolve whatever their differences are," he told The Park Record.

Herbert said the disagreement, if not settled could have far-reaching effects.

He said he conveyed to the two sides, "If you guys can’t get along it has impact on other people in Park City, so the idea of you guys resolving your differences is important."

Herbert said there have also been discussions between "their staff people and my own office." He added, "I hope to resolve it, at least to help resolve it. They are going to have to resolve it amongst themselves. I am not a party, but I can encourage discussion."

In June, Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch also told The Record he had offered to help the two parties settle their differences.
