Group inks deal to buy KCPW

Wasatch Public Media inked a deal in June with Community Wireless of Park City to purchase KCPW-FM, a National Public Radio affiliate in Salt Lake City.

Community Wireless also operates KPCW-FM in Park City.

Wasatch Public Media is under contract to buy KCPW 88.3 and 105.3 for $2.4 million, according to Wasatch Public Media spokesman Ed Sweeney.

But the Federal Communications Commission must approve the transaction, which could take 120 days to finalize, said Joe Wrona, an attorney for Community Wireless.

"During the four-month period, Wasatch Public Media will manage the station under an existing programming agreement with Community Wireless," Sweeney states on wasatchpublicmedia.org. "Thank you everyone who helped make this historic day happen!"

News programming and on-air talent at KCPW may not change if it is bought by Wasatch Public Media, according to Sweeney. Wasatch Public Media took over operation of the KCPW studios at Library Square in Salt Lake City several weeks ago.
