Guardsman Pass closed for winter
November 17, 2010
State transportation officials have closed the high-altitude road between Park City and Big Cottonwood Canyon, the route that takes drivers over Guardsman Pass.
The road, which is unpaved for a stretch, is part of the state highway system and is marked S.R. 190. It traverses the mountains between Park City and Brighton. The Utah Department of Transportation closes the road each winter and reopens the route when the snow melts.
The mountainous road between Park City and Midway, marked as S.R. 224, remained open early in the week. UDOT will close that route once more snow falls. The Mirror Lake Highway in the Uinta Mountains, meanwhile, is closed to traffic for the winter from Kamas to the Wyoming border.
