Robin Marrouche On behalf of the Kimball Art Center, I want to express my gratitude to the members of the community who have provided opinions and observations regarding the Kimball Art Center transformation project. The commentary we have received to

The external jury, which was selected by the Kimball Art Center, was comprised of a diverse group including longtime Park City residents, a developer, a historic preservationist, professional architects and urban planners, and a city expert. This group unanimously selected the winning architect based on their expression of a design which would position the Kimball to reach our goal of creating a world-class art center for the Park City community. An art center that we hope will serve as a community gathering place, a venue for cultural enrichment and educational experiences, and provide global exposure to further enhance tourism in Park City. The project has already generated news stories in a variety of international press and online outlets, which have provided positive exposure for our community.

Finally, we would like to reference that part of the inspiration for the winning design was the beloved Coalition Building, a Main Street structure which burnt down in the 1980s. The BIG design was not meant to be a re-creation, but rather an homage to our mining history with its innovative use of timber and steel materiality. We were delighted that the design has attempted to capture the spirit of the Coalition Building without repeating it, because architecture is meant to be an expression of the continuation of our city’s evolving history.

We encourage the community to continue to send us your comments, as we are actively listening. The best approach is to send your thoughts to me directly at director@kimballartcenter.org , comment on our Facebook Wall or stop by the Kimball to see the model in person and fill out a comment card.
