A man kidnapped his girlfriend from the Elk Meadows Apartments at 2627 W. Kilby Road Monday evening, the authorities said in a prepared statement.

The suspect assaulted the woman as he transported her to Salt Lake County, according to Summit County Sheriff’s Office Detective Ron Bridge.

"The victim was able to attract attention from security guards near the [El Nuevo Mi Mexico] nightclub in South Salt Lake and escape her captor," the press release states. "The victim was taken into protective custody and returned to her children."

The suspect returned to the victim’s residence in western Summit County where deputies arrested him without incident, according to Bridge.

He was booked into the Summit County jail on felony kidnapping charges. The Park Record normally doesn’t print the names of suspects until formal charges are filed.
