A 39-year-old Draper man appeared in 3rd District Court on Monday to face accusations that he sexually abused a teenage girl in the Snyderville Basin.

John Thomas Bird is charged with one count of forcible sexual abuse, which is a second-degree felony.

The alleged abuse occurred on Aug. 1, 2009, according to Summit County prosecutor Joy Natale.

The victim was 17 years old when Bird abused her, according to court papers filed by prosecutors.

The victim told the authorities the man touched her private parts "over her clothing and without her consent," according to Natale.

Bird admitted that he touched the girl over her clothing, court papers state.

The suspect was booked into the Summit County jail on May 12, according to jail staff.

Bird’s bail was set at $20,000. He posted bail and was released from jail May 12.
