Man knocked unconscious in fight on Swede Alley
November 14, 2012
A man was knocked unconscious during a fight on Swede Alley last weekend, the Park City Police Department, describing a confrontation that started in a nightclub and spilled into the street.
The police said a fight was reported at a Main Street nightclub at 1:10 a.m. on Nov. 10. There were conflicting reports about how the fight started, but the police said an estimated 12 people were somehow involved. The physical fighting was limited to outside the nightclub, according to the police.
Phil Kirk, a police captain, said nightclub staffers called the police. When officers arrived they found a victim lying on the street in Swede Alley. Another man who was with the victim was attempting to convince the other combatants to leave.
A police officer summoned an ambulance and stopped a group of people on Main Street who matched the description of those involved, Kirk said. The police said the people on Main Street were later released, but investigators are continuing to interview them.
The victim suffered serious head injuries, Kirk said. He is 24 years old and from Park City. He was with an older brother at the time of the fight, Kirk said. An ambulance took the man to a Salt Lake City hospital.
Kirk said there were "multiple punches thrown by multiple people." He said the police suspect some of the people involved had been drinking alcohol beforehand.
