Mark Spencer gone from Bonanza

The business park on Bonanza Drive has suffered its share of vacancies this year like most commercial real estate buildings in Summit County. But with the departure of Spencer’s Smokehouse Grill Monday, the complex is close to half empty.

Prior to Mark Spencer’s move, Bob Murphy’s Souperman restaurant and Joshua Kaufman’s Clicks Skate and Snowboard Shop shuttered their businesses.

Spencer announced previously that he was unwilling to endure another summer of Bonanza Drive construction this time expected to last from mid-June through November during business hours. He plans to sell food at local farmers’ markets and hopes to find a permanent home at Kimball Junction soon.

Bob Murphy could not be reached, but Heber City said his new store there was only open from September through December. He did not renew his Heber license for 2010. The Bonanza location has been dark and not open for several weeks.

Kaufman could not be reached and the windows and door are covered by posters even though it should be open according to spring hours taped to the door.

A representative from the complex’s owners, The Pyramid Group, said the company did not wish to comment about the recent closures, but confirmed Great Clips may move as well.

These four stores would bring the total empty spaces to eight out of 17 units.
