Marketplace: Silver King Coffee now open
July 20, 2011
It’s been several years in the making, but a drive-through coffee kiosk has opened in Park City.
The Silver King Coffee Company is celebrating its grand opening this week at 1409 Kearns Boulevard.
Owner Ben Buehner and his partner Garth Holmoe designed the small structure to look like a mining shed. Inside, some of the finest baristas in Summit County are waiting to take orders, Holmoe said.
Silver King serves coffee, teas and basic breakfast items to vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians on an empty lot near The Yard and the Park City Clinic.
Approval from the city took two years, but Buehner believes what won them over was the fact that he and Holmoe are local.
In return for approval, the vacant lot was cleaned up and a layer of asphalt was laid. Buehner said the new space has plenty of room for vehicles of all sizes to pull up for a drink or snack. It’s also big enough to host events.

The developers have frequently hosted non-profit events at The Yard, and the Silver King lot is now a new venue for similar activities like charity car washes or other events, he said.
Buehner said several locations were considered, but the space and location on Kearns made Bonanza Park perfect.
"It worked out really slick," he added. "We have tons of space."
He’s already received support from the community, Buehner said. There’s a real need for a drive-up coffee place – especially for mothers with children in the car.
"We serve a great cup of coffee quickly," he added.
The building is attached to power and sewer lines. It’s not a shack – that was very important to him, Holmoe and the city, Buehner added.
Holmoe has hired the staff and is managing the business. Buehner, a former ski industry sales representantive, provided the financing.
The idea began several years ago upon a suggestion from Buehner’s wife. It then grew and evolved and became a mission, he said.
"Everything in the store is focused on health," Buehner said. "My wife is a health coach, she emphasized having healthy options."
Both he and Holmoe are former athletes and still lead active lifestyles.
"We know what it’s like when you’re in a hurry," he added.
Holmoe said he’d like to see the menu evolve to be the go-to place for active people. They already offer the convenience; as business grows, they’ll take notice of what active people are looking for from a kiosk café.
"Our biggest focus beyond quality is service," Holmoe said.
Grand opening offerings include two-for-one coupons and specials.
In addition to mochas, lattes espressos and chai tea, Silver King also has several flavors of steamers, hot cocoa, hot tea, frappes, juice, muffins, bagels and oatmeal cups. It plans to have fresh fruit cups and possibly smoothies in the future. Milk alternatives and sugar-free flavor shots are also available.
