Meet the ‘Minuteclan’ artists
April 13, 2010
Join the Minuteclan artists for a conversation about their collaborative installation in the Kimball Art Center’s Badami Gallery. Artists Amy Caron, Jimmy Lucero, Mattson McFarland and Zara Dawn Shalbetter will speak at an Art Talk on Thursday, April 15, at 6 p.m. The artists will discuss their creative processes, from their initial brainstorm session to what each actually created in the gallery space.
The Minuteclan installation explores the idea of borders. Each artist was assigned a territory in the gallery space indicated by a specific color of tape. As each artist built his or her territory, artistic borders inevitably crossed and individual ideas intersected.
Since the 1980s, border art has expanded, both due to the political and social prominence of the border and immigration issues, but also because it has gained more institutional support. The current work on display at the Kimball Art Center is very much engaged with these issues as the artists configure and reconfigure different linguistic, aesthetic and cultural idioms into their sculptural objects and installations.
Monthly Art Talks are hosted by the Kimball Art Center and Summit Sotheby’s International Realty. The events are free and open to the public.
