Miners lose to undefeated team

Jen Watkins, Of the Record staff

The Miners knew it would be difficult going up against the number 1 team in the division. And it was. Timpanogos remains undefeated after beating the Miners 9-1 on Jan. 7 at the Park City Ice Arena.

"We had a task at hand, and actually, we scored first," said Park City High School coach Bruce Foster.

Co-captain Michael Foster had given the team a pep talk before the game, asking the coaches to leave the locker room as the team had a heart-to-heart talk about what they were going up against.

"They came out (of the locker room) on fire," Bruce Foster said.

In the first minute of the game, Tyler Kozole, assisted by Grey Robbins, scored the only goal for the Miners. Timpanogos responded with two goals of their own in the first period, followed by three goals in the second period and four in the third period. Timpanogos had 41 shots on goal, Miners had 11.

"You can see why they were number one," Bruce Foster said. "They had three lines and all three had real skilled players. They were definitely a very good team. Our guys skated their hardest and they try their hardest. We just ran into a very, very good team. Obviously, being undefeated, every other team has run into it."

The Miners will play their last season game at home on Jan. 20 against Bingham at 8:15 p.m. at the Ice Arena. Playoffs will begin Jan. 27 with an elimination round, followed by a double elimination tournament.
