Miners surprise Delta
September 8, 2009
Coaches are calling it Dylan Chynoweth’s break-out performance in a surprise victory for the Miners varsity football team, which crushed Delta 41-17 Friday night at Delta’s home stadium.
Running-back coach Mikey Collins said he doesn’t think the Miners have ever beaten the Rabbits at an away game. Delta has been in the playoffs for nearly 35 consecutive years.
"The kids really executed very well," Collins said. "The fact that we went to Delta and won is extremely impressive."
Chynoweth, the Miners’ star running back, led the team in a strong first quarter. On the second play of the game, he carried the ball for 80 yards and made the Miners’ first touchdown, Collins said.
"In the first half, we came out and executed right off the bat," he said. "We came out a little flat in the third quarter, but we regained our composure and went right back at them."
This was the fourth game for the Miners this season and their third win. The Miners had their only loss against Juan Diego Aug. 28 .

"The fact that we went and rebounded the way we did from the Juan Diego game, in such a difficult place to play, is very impressive," Collins said.
The Miners face Logan at home this Friday at 7 p.m.
