NSHS girls 1st, boys 2nd in Class 2A

Park City High School’s girls weren’t the only dominant track team from Summit County last weekend.

North Summit High School’s girls’ track team was named Class 2A champion after garnering a whopping 149 points in the state track meet at Brigham Young University. The boys narrowly missed their own title in falling by five points, 107-102, to Parowan.

Distance standout Erica Birk was first in the 3200 and 1600 events, adding a runner-up finish in the 800 meters.

Erica Richins raced to victory in the 100 hurdles, Samantha Nicholes was tops in the long jump, and the Braves’ girls medley team also won.

Other exemplary performances from NSHS girls included Nicholes grabbing second-place finishes in the 200 and 100 meters, Hayley Richins placing second in javelin, Mckell Richins taking third in the 400, and Kendra Richins landing third in the long jump.

The boys didn’t feature any individual event winners, but the team had a slew of runners-up – eight, to be exact.

Garret Rowser was second in the 1600 to go with his third place in the 3200. Dallin Judd was second in the 400 and the 100, and third in the long jump. Taylor Shepherd was second in the 300 hurdles and the 110 hurdles.

The 4×100 relay team took second, Trevor Rydalch was second in the high jump, and Devin Orchard was second in the pole vault.

Daniel Beenfield scored third place in the javelin.
