Roxanne Christensen Lazzara, daughter of Willam and Mignon Christensen, passed away in early November at the age of 76. Born into a legacy ballet family, Roxanne grew up watching the Companies her father founded, San Francisco Ballet and Ballet West. She fell in love with dance and the stage with her first role as a buffoon in The Nutcracker. After she graduated from Rowland Hall (’65), she studied ballet at the University of Utah and then joined Ballet West as a company member and toured the United States. In 1971, Roxanne toured Europe in what would become a pivotal expedition for the Company from Utah. Accolades from the most prestigious critics in Europe were penned for Ballet West and the tour elevated the Company to international acclaim.

After she retired from ballet she moved to California where she raised her family. She returned to Utah and settled in Park City in 1991. In 1995 she met Anthony Lazzara while attending a Park City Club event and they soon married. Together they enjoyed traveling, skiing, volunteering at Sundance and Park City Mountain Resort, and attending the ballet.

Roxanne is survived by Sarah (Rich, Cardiff, and Pfeiffer) West, Ben (Lael, Amilia and Conway) Selznick, and Zack (Issa) Selznick. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Ballet West.
