William Paul Hansen Sr., 77, passed away June 4, 2006, in St. George, Utah. He was born on May 12, 1929, in South Gate, Calif. to Paul and Lucille Manson Hansen.
At age eight, Bill was faced with possibly his biggest test in life, losing both parents in an automobile accident. Because of tough times, Bill was separated from his little sister and adopted by his Uncle Grant and Aunt Nola Hansen. Another family member adopted his angel sister Marge. Bill grew up on Coronado Island and graduated from Coronado High School. He then attended college at Brigham Young University where he played football and ran track.
While in Provo, Bill married Elmarie Briggs and had three daughters and one son. They were later divorced. He then married Reta Gayle Gubler and had five more children and resided in Park City for 10 years. They later divorced.
Bill spent most of his years on the road touching the lives of everyone he met, an eternal optimist. He excelled in life insurance and time-share sales, building custom homes and inventing Nutriceutical products. His purpose in life was realized when he acquired Parkinson’s disease nine years ago. He fought and overcame all of the symptoms of the debilitating disease and developed his own protocol that is outlined in his book "Hope Heals."
His business carried him from Utah to Las Vegas, then to Dallas, and from there to his own little "paradise" in Carlsbad, Calif. He spent his last month in St. George, surrounded by his family who loves him so much. Dad will forever be missed. Dad’s favorite quote was: "The past is history, the future a mystery, today is a gift that’s why we call it the present."
He is survived by his children: Melody Jensen, Newport, Calif., Bonnie (Boyd) Luke, St. George; Kathy (Gary) Hansen, Smithfield, Utah; William P. Jr. (Amy) Hansen, St. George; Joseph E. (Holly) Hansen, St. George; Kellie (Dave) Mease, St. George; Shellie (Brad) Brown, St. George; Clayton, Elisa, Trent and Ocey Leavitt, all of St. George; sister Marge (Harry) Gibbons, Salt Lake City; 39 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Lucille Hansen; adopted parents Grant and Nola Hansen; son William L. Hansen; son Jon Hansen; daughter Julie Daines; and grandsons Tyler and Trevor Luke.
Memorial services will be Wednesday, June 7, 2006 at 10 a.m. at the Metcalf Mortuary Chapel, St. George. Gathering for family and friends will be Wednesday, from 9:30 to 10 a.m., prior to services.
