Obituary – Pete Robert Toly

Pete Robert Toly, born Oct. 15, 1935, to Victor and Matilda Toly in Park City, passed peacefully away Sept. 13, 2009, in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho. Pete graduated from Park City High School in 1954 where he excelled in sports, lettering in basketball and football. He then attended Westminster College, Salt Lake City. He married Mary Lou Wheelwright in 1956 in Park City. Together they had three children, Scott, Roxanne and Steven.

In 1962, Pete and Mary Lou purchased the Park Tavern on Park City’s Main Street, and changed the name to Red Banjo Saloon, which later became Red Banjo Pizza Parlor. Pete and Mary Lou later divorced.

Pete was on the original Ski Patrol at Treasure Mountain Ski Resort.

Surviving Pete are brothers: Tony Toly, Midvale, Utah, George and Loyia Toly, Oakhust, California; sister: Ida Nuneviller, Park City; children: Scott (Jane) Toly, Roxanne Toly, Steven (Lisa) Toly; grandchildren: Tana (Dave), Kyle (Tara), Tyler, Kerby, Amanda, Megan, Alex; three great-grandchildren; and special friend Karen Stokes. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers: John er, Frank Byer, and Mike Umiljenovich; sisters: Ann Houtz, Josephine Clark and Angelina Toly.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, September 18, at noon at our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services. Funeral directors: Sims Funeral Home, Soda Springs, Idaho. Interment will be at Lava Hot Springs Cemetery.
