Orrin Hatch in Wanship: illegals growing marijuana in national parks
November 17, 2010
Sen. Orrin Hatch said on Friday Mexican people are entering the United States illegally and then committing crimes, including, according to Hatch, cultivating drugs.
He said some are setting up their operations in cherished places like national parks.
"They’re coming across and using our national parks and special land to grow marijuana," Hatch said during a town hall meeting in Wanship.
He also said there are millions of people from other countries in the United States who have stayed longer than their visas allowed. Many of them are hard workers, he acknowledged, saying they want to remain in the U.S. for their jobs.
Hatch said the border between the U.S. and Mexico must be secured and told the crowd people of "goodwill" must reach an accord on immigration.
