Park City Cooperative Preschool to host Autumn Auction Saturday

Ashley Serafin, a parent teacher at the Park City Cooperative Preschool, works with her son Weston Serafin, right, and Dillinger Holladay. The school is having a fundraiser on Saturday.

As a nonprofit, the Park City Cooperative Preschool thrives because of the community.

Parents assist in running the school and donations help cover the school's operating costs. Its biggest fundraiser of the year, the Autumn Auction, is set to take place on Saturday from 7 to 10 p.m. at Red Rock Brewing in Kimball Junction.

Amber Hansen, a parent of a child at the school and member of the fundraising committee, said the school is hoping to raise about $20,000 at the event, which is double the funds the school typically raises during the annual event. After about two decades of hosting the fundraiser, Hansen said they are doing things differently this year.

For one, the fundraiser is free to attend, which Hansen hopes will attract more guests. The event is open to the public and is set to include an auction, cash bar and live music.

The event also moved away from its traditional location at a clubhouse and to the brewery. Hansen said they wanted the fundraiser to be "out in the community."

The funds raised from the event will go toward the school's operating budget, including classroom supplies, teacher salaries and other school updates. Plus, Hansen added, the parents in the school want to keep the preschool's tuition affordable, and donations help offset those costs.
