Park City Day School offers camps
July 12, 2011
The Park City Day School is offering summer camps and overnight extreme adventures throughout the summer.
Melanie Pickens, PCDS academic dean and summer director, said the program offers four different options for all Park City students.
"We’re really excited to be offering this to the entire Park City community," Pickens said.
According to Pickens, this is the school’s second year of summer camp for preschool through pre-kindergarten students in the early childhood program as well as an academic and enrichment program for students in second grade and older.
"Our focus isn’t just fun, but learning in a fun environment and getting to experience Park City with some local field trips," she said.
The summer camp also offers extreme adventures for older students. Pickens said this year participants can enroll in an indoor skydiving adventure, a week-long water park adventure, or a rafting trip.

According to Pickens, each week of camp has a theme. This week, the older kids will be learning about community jobs in Park City and taking mini field trips to local businesses, while younger students will be learning about dinosaurs.
Pickens explained that although it is summer camp, the focus is still to meet the needs of the students.
"Kids are learning the social development and motor skills they need to develop," Pickens said.
She said each classroom is limited to no more than 15 older students per class and 13 younger students, with one lead teacher and two assistants.
"We have some really nice ratios when were keeping eyes on the kids," Pickens said.
The week of July 18, PCDS will offer From Seed to Plant: Gardening 101 in the Early Childhood Program for $225.
Next week, students can also enroll in the Full Day Elementary Program to learn about the history of Park City by exploring maps of Main Street and checking out books at the Summit County Library.
One of Picken’s favorite adventure camps is Thrills and Chills; Extreme Water Park. From Aug. 1 5 students in grades 4 9 will visit several water parks throughout Utah, including Lagoon-A-Beach, Raging Waters and Cowabunga Bay. The cost for the week is $375.
