Park City People First to hold barbecue

The State of Utah’s Developmental Disabilities Council and the National not-for-profit organization People First recognize the need for people with developmental disabilities to self-advocate for their rights.

Park City has a chapter of People First, which is recognized by both these groups. Park City People First meets monthly to discuss opportunities and ways to improve Park City for people with disabilities. For example, last year, members of the group met with a representative from the Park City Transit Center and the Chief of Police. Earlier this month, Officers of Park City People First attended a three-day Self Advocates Being Empowered (SABE) National conference in St. Paul, Minnesota. They had the opportunity to learn from other States and communities about the challenges, strategies, and successes they’ve experienced. The goal of attending was to bring more ideas back to Park City and get more people of all backgrounds self-advocating in Park City. Park City People First would like to invite anyone interested in learning more about the group to an open house barbecue at the City Park Pavilion on Monday, Sept. 17, from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. RSVPs are appreciated but not required. For more information or to RSVP, email James O’Neill at oneill006@hotmail.com or text or call him at (435) 901-4187.
