Park City Police recover kidnapped boy
Two men were arrested in Park City Friday for multiple felonies, including kidnapping, after leading Park City police officers on a short foot chase.
Gustavo Vasquez-Nava, 19, and Ruben Anthony Morales, 28, were both booked into the Summit County Jail on multiple felony offenses, including kidnapping, aggravated robbery, theft and failure to stop for law enforcement.
The PCPD conducted a traffic stop on a suspicious vehicle at 2010 Park Avenue in Park City, according to a press release. Once the vehicle came to a complete stop, both Vasquez-Nava and Morales fled on foot.
An 11-year-old male child who had been reported missing from an apartment complex in the Snyderville Basin earlier in the morning was located in the vehicle, which had also been stolen from the complex.
Initial reports indicated the boy had walked to the family car to retrieve a cell phone, but didn’t return, the release stated. The family contacted authorities about the child and also reported their vehicle as missing.
The report states the child was approached by Vasquez-Nava and Morales in the parking lot of the apartment complex, when they demanded money from him. They took two cell phones, before forcibly grabbing the child and throwing him in the vehicle.
According to police, Vasquez-Nava and Morales drove to a local convenience store and attempted to buy beer, but were turned away from the attendant.
The two males continued to drive around the area until eventually being stopped by Park City police officers.
