Park City resident a semifinalist in National Merit Scholarship Competition

Park City resident Nadia Scharfstein has been named a semifinalist in the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Competition. This recognition is presented to less than 1 percent of high school seniors in the United States.

Now a senior at Rowland Hall, a private school in Salt Lake City, Scharfstein entered the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2022 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which serves as an initial screen of program entrants. The test is taken by over 1.3 million high school juniors in about 21,000 high schools.

National Merit Semifinalists now have an opportunity to continue in the competition for 7,140 National Merit Scholarships, worth nearly $28 million, that will be offered in spring 2024. More than 15,000 semifinalists are expected to advance to the finalist level (students will be notified of this designation in February), and National Merit Scholarship winners will be selected from the group of finalists.
