Park City Schools to start late Thursday
Thursday, May 29, all schools in the Park City School District will start one hour late. Daily schedules will progress normally after this late beginning until the school day ends at the usual time of dismissal. Students who take buses to school should expect their transportation to pick them up one hour later than normally scheduled as well.
Also, the district office will close at 2 p.m. on May 28 and will remain closed until May 29 at 8:30 p.m. according to the Park City School District Web site. Although officials can not comment on the cause of the closure, Superintendent Ray Timothy was able to say that he was notified last Saturday and met with the Secret Service this week to discuss the traffic congestion in the area.
"Rather than deal with delay issues we simply chose to start school later," said Timothy. "Cooperation (from parents) would be appreciated," he added saying that "we ask that they not arrive until an hour later (than usual the usual start time)." Students who choose to arrive to school at the usual hour should expect delays due to unspecified road closures.
The only event scheduled to proceed as usual will be the Community Scholarship Breakfast that will still begin at 7 a.m. in the Eccles Center and should end after 8:30 a.m. when school begins.
The Park City Planning Commission on Wednesday approved a City Hall workforce or otherwise restricted housing development slated for the northern reaches of Old Town.
