Park City woman killed in Southern Utah traffic accident

A Park City woman died and her mother was injured Wednesday night in a traffic accident in Southern Utah, the Utah Highway Patrol said.

Natalie Holt was 19 years old.

Todd Royce, a Utah Highway Patrol sergeant, said the younger woman was driving a BMW sport utility vehicle southbound on Interstate 15 between Cedar City and St. George at 10:37 p.m. The driver lost control of the vehicle, hit a cable barrier and rolled through the northbound lanes of the interstate, Royce said. The vehicle then rolled down an embankment, he said.

Holt was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene, Royce said. Her mother, Audrey Matthews, 56 years old and also from Park City, was taken to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George with moderate injuries, he said.

Royce said it appeared the driver was not wearing a seatbelt. The passenger apparently was, he said.

Royce said investigators are considering whether speed contributed to the accident and whether the driver swerved to miss hitting an animal.
