Basin woman withdraws campaign paperwork in Park City

Update, June 5, 9 p.m.: Irvin filed an affidavit at City Hall on Friday to withdraw her candidacy.

A Snyderville Basin woman on Thursday filed campaign paperwork at the Marsac Building in hopes of running for a Park City Council seat this year even though she does not live within the city limits.

Morgan Irvin lives on Trout Creek Court, a small street off Glenwild Drive. It is close to Kimball Junction. Park City residency is one of the requirements for a City Council candidate.

Irvin by Friday morning had not withdrawn her declaration of candidacy. Marci Heil, the Park City recorder, said City Hall would reject the candidacy based on the residency requirement if Irvin does not withdraw the declaration. Candidates must have been a Park City resident for at least 12 consecutive months prior to the election to seek office in the city.

The Park City limits roughly stretch between the McPolin Farm, the upper reaches of Deer Valley, Quinn’s Junction and the edge of Park Meadows.

People from the Snyderville Basin have occasionally expressed interest in campaigning for elected office in Park City, but it is believed Irvin is the first in recent years to file the necessary paperwork.

There have been suggestions in the past that there could be confusion since postal addresses in the Snyderville Basin carry the name Park City.
