Ex-PCHS athletic trainer charged in sex case involving teen
City Hall prosecutors in April charged a onetime member of the Park City High School athletic program with a sex count involving a teen.
Robert Rauzi, who is 33 years old, was charged in Summit County Justice Court with a count of attempted unlawful sexual conduct with a 16-year-old or a 17-year-old. The one-page charging document did not provide details about the case. It indicates the charge stems from an incident on Jan. 3.
An attorney for Rauzi entered a not guilty plea on his behalf. A court date is scheduled June 26. His attorney did not immediately return a phone message seeking comment.
The charge is a class B misdemeanor, punishable by six months in jail and a $1,000 fine upon conviction.
Tom Van Gorder, the interim superintendent at the Park City School District, said Rauzi’s employment was terminated as a result of an internal investigation into the incident. Rauzi was an athletic trainer and taught health sciences at the high school, Van Gorder said.
Van Gorder said the internal investigation lasted between one and two weeks earlier in the school year. Rauzi was suspended during the internal investigation, he said.
Van Gorder said a complaint spurred the internal investigation. He declined to discuss whether the case involves a student at the high school.

Park City mayor, delivering important address, likens coronavirus battle to rebuilding after Great Fire of 1898
Park City Mayor Andy Beerman on Tuesday night looked back, far back, in the community’s history as he spoke of the challenges of today. In delivering the annual State of the City address, the mayor told the story of a destructive 1898 fire in Park City, comparing the struggles then to the efforts of today to combat the novel coronavirus.
