Linda Jager helps shape Park City’s image in new role

She arrives at City Hall from Olympic gigs and Chamber/Bureau

Linda Jager in her career helped shape the image of the Utah Olympic Park, the U.S. speedskating teams and, while at the Park City Chamber/Bureau, Park City itself as a resort destination.

Jager, who lives in the Snyderville Basin and has been an area resident since 2000, in the summer was hired to fill an important post at the Marsac Building that puts her in the position to influence the image of the municipal government. Jager is the community engagement manager for City Hall, giving her wide-ranging duties in the municipal government’s outreach efforts.

Jager and the four staffers in the Community Engagement Department she manages are tasked with promoting City Hall programs as well as ensuring officials gather significant input from the public as many critical decisions are made. She mentioned City Hall’s goals regarding transportation, housing and energy as issues of importance to her role. She will also have a key role in emergency communications.

“I really admire the work that’s being done by the city,” she said, acknowledging she is “a little bit of a geek for politics.”

Jager described some of the outreach initiatives that are underway, including a series of coffee gatherings with Park City’s elected officials and an upcoming apres ski series with them. In the summer of 2017, she said, backyard gatherings are planned with Mayor Jack Thomas and members of the Park City Council.

Jager also said City Hall plans to pursue outreach efforts next year as additional Main Street improvements are being readied and leaders continue discussions about developing a patchwork of municipal properties along the lower Park Avenue corridor. She will also be involved in coordinating City Hall’s crisis and emergency communications.

“Timely and accurate information and being transparent,” Jager said. “We owe that to our community.”

Jager was assigned some of the duties of the retired Phyllis Robinson, who was the community and public affairs manager for City Hall until her departure in the summer. She will not be assigned to municipal housing programs, though. The position pays between $66,404.22 and $98,638.76 annually.

Jager, who is 51 years old, hails from Long Island, New York, and spent time in Denver before arriving in Park City in 2000. Her background is in public relations and managing not-for-profit organizations. Career positions have included the marketing and public relations director for the Utah Olympic Park, the press officer for short-track competitions for US Speedskating during the 2010 Winter Olympics and the communications director for the speedskating national governing body. She was also worked in media services assigned to the biathlon competitions for the U.S. Olympic Committee for the 2014 Winter Olympics.

She spent two years as the communications director at the Chamber/Bureau. The post at the Chamber/Bureau is a high-profile one that put her in the role of promoting Park City and assisting media outlets as they cover the community. She left the Chamber/Bureau for City Hall.

“What I’m doing now, my audience is really residents and businesses in Park City,” she said, adding, “Talking to our community versus talking to potential visitors.”
