Welcome to Election 2018 in Summit County. On Election Day, The Park Record will host a live election feed as the final ballots are cast and the results are tallied. For additional context about each race in Summit County, refer to our voter guide.

Election results so far:

The Park City Open Space Bond, or Treasure bond, has passed by an overwhelming margin.

Mitt Romney (R) has won the U.S. Senate seat in Utah over Jenny Wilson (D), according to the Associated Press.

Congressman Rob Bishop (R) has won a ninth term as Congressman over Lee Castillo (D) and Eric Eliason (United Utah Party), according to NPR affiliate KUER.

Constitutional Amendments A and C and Propositions 2, 3 and 4 have leads after Tuesday, while Constitutional Amendment B and Nonbinding Opinion Question 1 are trailing and are likely to fail.

Republicans Ron Winterton (Senate 26) and Logan Wilde (House 53) lead in their respective Utah Legislative races. Republican incumbent Tim Quinn holds a narrow margin over Democratic challenger Meaghan Miller after votes were counted Tuesday, with provisional ballots left to count.

Kara Hendrickson appears slated to be the newest member of the Park City Board of Education, if the preliminary results from election night hold.

What we’ve seen on Election Day:

Long lines have been reported at the Marsac Building and at the Sheldon Richins Building at Kimball Junction. County officials suggest traveling to voting centers in Kamas or in Coalville where wait times are significantly reduced. Any Summit County resident can vote at any polling place within the county.

A small number of ballots sent to Summit County voters were sent with the incorrect return envelope to San Juan County. County officials are working to remedy the issue.

Residents who voted in person today filled out provisional ballots, according to the Summit County Clerk. Those ballots won’t be counted on Tuesday night. The Summit County Clerk plans to release updated results that include the provisional ballots Friday.

Summit County Clerk Kent Jones estimates the voter turnout to be above 70 percent in Summit County and calls the turnout “unbelievable” for a midterm election. He says Prop 2, Romney’s presence on the ticket, backlash against Trump and Treasure are the main drivers for voter turnout.

The timing is significant because Kouri’s next scheduled court appearance is a preliminary hearing on May 15. Third District Court Judge Richard Mrazik at that time will hear witness testimony and evidence to determine whether there’s probable cause that a crime has been committed. The case could be dismissed if there is insufficient evidence.
